Basement Waterproofing Cost Calculator for Lansing, MI

Weighing an interior drain, a new sump pump or crack sealing for a basement in Lansing, Michigan's capital city? Four multiple-choice questions turn into a rough budget built on 2026 national rates. No name or contact details are needed, and the figure is a planning aid to hold up against a contractor's written estimate.

The Method

Here is how the number is built. Your floor size stands in for the length of foundation wall around it, and the calculator prices only the part of that wall you say gets wet, at the per-foot rate for an interior perimeter drain. Pick a new pump or cracks to seal and those ranges go on top. All five rates in the table come from Fixr, labeled national, as published in 2026.

Cost rowFigureSource (year)
Typical basement waterproofing projectabout $3,000 to $10,000 (average about $5,000)Fixr national (2026)
Interior perimeter drain, per linear foot$40 to $120Fixr national (2026)
Sump pump installation$600 to $2,500Fixr national (2026)
Epoxy crack injection, per crack$250 to $1,000Fixr national (2026)
Waterproof paint or sealant, per sq ft$1 to $8Fixr national (2026)

Arithmetic uses three of them, the drain, pump and crack rows; the whole-project and paint rows are context, a sense of where totals tend to fall. No Lansing or Michigan cost source was found, so every row is national. Around Lansing, the house's age, its wall type, access, the share of the basement involved and any plumbing can each push a real price up or down.

A few things are left out. Exterior excavation, wall bracing and structural repair are not modeled, and egress windows aren't either. Plumbing stays out of the math too: sump tie-ins, ejectors, backflow and backwater valves, lateral work and any other drain connection get priced by a licensed plumbing contractor; the City of Lansing's B2P2, which concerns some of that work at City addresses, is explained in the Michigan rules guide. Electrical work for a pump, such as a new circuit or outlet, isn't counted. Permits come from the Building Safety Office in Lansing or from the town's own office, which set their own charges, so none show here.

What to Do Next

Treat the range as a starting point for questions, not as a price. To learn what your own basement would take, send the request form. One independent contractor near Lansing receives it, gets in touch, sees the space if you say yes and puts its own scope and price on paper. Before signing anything, get its license number in writing and check it on LARA's online license lookup. Curious what moves a total? The basement cost guide goes through it.
